Mexico is an amazing place to go if you are interested both partying and learning about history. Its beautiful turquoise beaches with white shifty sand look absolutely gorgeous during the day; night lights of big fancy resorts with glamorous hotels attract people at night. However, the real spirit of Mexico doesn’t live before your face. A lot of interesting things can be hidden in the jungle, for instance. Do white cheeked spider monkeys or coatis have thumbs? If in doubt, go hiking and see for yourself! You can find many in small villages and centuries old Mayan ruins in the middle of the jungle. One of such small towns is Izamal. It is located on the Yucatan peninsula. Once a big religious center, now it’s a quiet tourist destination. A few very old and magnificently looking palaces and sanctuaries have been repaired and open for tourists thriving to solve some Mayan mysteries. Here is a list of some sites you don’t want to miss in Izamal.

  •  - Kinich Kak Moo
Kinich Kak Moo is the Izamal’s largest pyramid located in the central point of the city. Nowadays this 34m tall giant peacefully neighbors with modern cafes, restaurants and residential buildings. Can you imagine how nice it is to wake up in the morning, look out of your window and see this beauty? The Maya dedicated this pyramid to one of their most important gods- the god of the sun.
  • - Convento de San Antonio de Padua
When the Spanish invaded Izamal they ruined some of the town’s buildings and used the stones to construct a monastery. It was one of the New World’s first establishments there. These days you can freely stroll under its arcades, look at its beautiful frescoes and statues and enjoy a special show held at Convento de San Antonio de Padua practically nightly.
  •  - Centro Cultural
If you are looking for something truly authentic to bring back home to your family and friends you should definitely visit Centro Cultural. It is a cultural centre and a souvenir shop where you can find handmade pottery, carved and woven figurines and toys and fine jewelry made of silver, gold and copper.

You leave the city of Izamal you find yourself in a wild jungle. It’s one of the reasons why people who love nature really enjoy this place. Did you know that you can even book a house and spend a few days in the jungle? It would be a very good chance to know the local wildlife better! Do you have a lot of questions about rare animals and exotic plants? Then book your flight to Mexico, pack your suitcase and come here. It will be much more interesting to watch real animals than to just google the answer!
